Game Boards
Our Chess Boards are produced from Red Mahogany,
Ebony, and Afrormosia.
Each board (approx. 13" X 13") is
handcrafted then finished with a felt bottom. The hand-carved pieces
are made from the same hardwoods as the boards. The carved pieces are
representative of daily life and hierarchy in a Chichewa
Tribe
(Southern Malawi). A full set of chesspieces is included with every
board.

Classic
BAO is a fast moving game of strategy and skill from the central
African country of Malawi.
Some say it has Arabic origins but Malawians
proudly claim it as their own. Today, Bao's popularity is growing
faster than ever. Bao can now be found in all of Malawi's neighboring
countries and beyond. The Bao board is hand crafted from African teak
and decorated with traditional burnt etchings. Each game board is a
work
of art. The game pieces are beans from Malawi and are from the same
family as domestic black beans. Bao is easy to learn and very
challenging to master. ENJOY!
