Batik is an old artform and is practiced by many different cultures
throughout the world, including Africa. Wax batiking requires several
steps of coloring in which the artist "paints" wax on the areas that he
does NOT wish to be colored. The fabric is then immersed in dye.
After dyeing (the fabric, not the artist!), the wax is rinsed and the
the process starts anew. The more colors, the more steps required to
produce the finished product. All pieces are original, and
all colors are permanent.
