Gore’s Secret Wallet
By Zvisinei Sandi
KITO waited with bated breath.
Gore, the magician, would allow him to marry Sarai, the most beautiful
maiden in the kingdom, if he only passed one more test.
"This is the test," said Gore, "you have to show that you have a
sturdy heart and would not reveal the secrets of my magic to the
world."
Kito nodded and promised to guard the magician’s secrets with his life.
He and Gore became the best of friends in the world.
Kito and his future father-in-law decided to go out hunting. Gore
was just as good a hunter as Kito and before long, the two had killed a
buffalo.
Moments later, they killed an antelope and then two rhinos.
The young man was perplexed at all this killing and asked his
father-in-law how they were to carry all this meat home.
Gore told Kito not to worry, promising that he knew how to handle
such matters with ease. The two killed several more animals and then
the magician brought out a wallet from his pocket.
With wondering eyes, Kito watched him pack all the huge animals into
the tiny leather pocket.
When all the meat was safely inside, Gore put the wallet back into his
pocket and the two started back home.
When they were just outside the homestead, Gore brought out the
animals and laid them on the ground. Then he sent Kito into the village
to call people out.
When Sarai saw all the animals there, she was surprised. She ran to
Kito and asked him how he and Gore could have carried such a load
alone.
Looking into her lovely eyes, Kito almost told her about Gore’s secret
wallet.
Then he remembered how he had promised to guard Gore’s secrets and
immediately closed his mouth.
Seeing this, Gore was very pleased with Kito and promised to give him
some wealth after his marriage to Sarai.
However, he still had another test for the young man.
